Week 4

Religion has always prevalent in human history. It has been the cause of the wars and disputes. Recently, it is said that there has been a significant increase in the number of atheists in USA, along with all other developed countries. There are a few growing concerns about this issue.

The people who were asked questions for the survey were asked a simple question: Do you have belief in any form of God/Goddess? Surprisingly, the results showed that many people in USA, decendents of those who fought for their religion, have actually come to lose faith in God. The figures suggest that from the year 2006 to 2008, the number of atheists was raised from 2milions to 3.2 millions. This enormous change has led to many disputes.

There seem to be the definite correlation between the faith in God and the degree of the developement of the nation. In other words, the more affluent people's lives are, the higher the chances of people choosing other elements over their religion or religious faith. Long time ago, when people were not so much educated to a high degree, viewed God as their purpose of living. Their lives rotated around their religions. However, as times went by, there were many 'spiritual rebels' who stood up and said that the religion is wrong. In fact, some renown atheists, such as Nitszche, claim that the religion is the product of ignorance. I, personally, cannot fully agreee with such a idea, i agree to a certain degree.

One may never find out the truth. I believe that what is the most important is that people should believe in something whether it is religious or not. Having faith in those things helps people live a 'spiritual' and meaningful life.

  1. I agree strongly with what you say.

I'm strongly religious myself, and I think that having faith in the supernatural is a beautiful thing for a human, and I think its also a necessity.

I see too many of my friends live life aimlessly, who go to school without a goal in life, or live life without a significant purpose. Yet, many still claim they "live life to the fullest."

We people of religion live life to the fullest for God, or a higher power, because this life we have was given to us by Him. When I hear atheists say that they "live life to the fullest," I somehow get the impression that they live life fully for themselves. I don't think theirs anything wrong in living for yourself to a certain extent, but when people start living with the mentality that everything is fine as long as they themselves are happy, then things start to go very wrong.

I think living your life to the fullest means to live for the happiness of other people. I think its hard for someone to willingly live for the sake of others without faith.

    Great topic. Thanks for posting.
